MASS TIMBER WAREHOUSE

Industrial Warehouses with Showroom and Offices

Moorabbin, Victoria

In progress

This project is one of the first of its kind in Australia. Replacing all structural steel elements with mass timber, the industrial/showroom was developed by Goodman Group at their Chifley Business Park, located at Moorabbin Airport. Our office was engaged by the head contractor HTroon to detail and document the 5 Star Green Star project and we relished the opportunity to work with timber structure on such a large scale.

The project is estimated to produce 23% less embodied carbon than if it were built using steel, the predominant material used on industrial projects in Australia today. The interiors showcase the timber structure leaving it exposed, and this provides a soft, welcoming feel to the spaces despite the grand scale.

As the ambitious project nears completion we reflect that whilst it presented many challenges to the design and construction team, the outcome, both aesthetically and sustainably, demonstrates the possibilities of timber in projects of this scale and we  hope that mass timber is used more in the future.
