WIDDERSON CHILDCARE

Childcare Centre

Port Macquarie

Current

The Widderson Childcare is a proposed single level childcare in Port Macquarie, located nearby the University of Newcastle and facing a residential area. The building is conceived as a “L” shape, wrapping around a central shared play area. It has capacity for 106 children across 6 rooms, the rooms are in pairs with shared amenities, and a large canopy wraps around the classrooms providing a generous outdoor undercover play area.

The building typology draws from existing elements and finishes in the surrounding neighbourhood, creating an inviting and dynamic facade. The staggered roof reduces the scale of the building and provided opportunities for clerestory windows into each classroom. The material palette is inspired by the Australian landscape, including warm timber tones, cream bricks, and eucalyptus feature colour.
